What is the Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189)?

This is an invites-only permanent visa to Australia. It is for skilled workers that are not sponsored by state or employer. Once you get this visa, you will be able to do the following:

  • Have a qualification relevant to an occupation on the skilled occupation list
  • be assessed as having skills suitable for an occupation on the skilled occupation list
  • stay in Australia, usually for 18 months
  • be under 50 years of age
  • find your own employment if granted this visa. They are not responsible for arranging employment.
