Carer Visa (Subclass 116 and 836)

The carer visa allows individuals to move to Australia for the purposes of caring for a family member or relative with a chronic condition who does not have reasonable access to alternative care options in Australia. This visa can be applied for both onshore (Subclass 836) and offshore (Subclass 116). The below information applies to both subclasses, with the only difference being the location (either inside or outside of Australia) of the applicant at the time of application and decision.

The Supportive Relative Visa, encompassing categories 116 and 836, grants permanent residency to individuals committed to providing necessary care and aid to their family members in Australia. This visa is designed for those whose relatives are unable to depend on other family members, health care systems, or community services in Australia for the requisite support and have one of the following needs:

• Are living with a chronic health condition that hinders their ability to carry out everyday tasks
• Require hands-on assistance to manage the health needs of a family member who is suffering from a health ailment
